The 2003 World Assemblies of God Congress,
scheduled to be held this August in Nairobi, Africa, has been
canceled, organizers announced today.
The cancellation comes in response to the
world situation on travel and security. "The leaders felt it
would be wisdom to cancel," said Thomas E. Trask, chairman of
the World A/G Fellowship, "not because of the fear of death but
founded on the general climate of unrest and concern in the
world at large."
Although there will not be a 2003 event,
future meetings are still planned. "It was felt that the best
decision is toward caution and so the 2003 Congress [only] has
been canceled," Trask said.
This is the first time in the 12-year
history of the World A/G Congress for an event to be canceled.
The next triennial World A/G Congress is planned for Australia
in 2006
