Poll: Majority of British Muslims do not believe al-Qaida behind
Sept. 11 attacks
LONDON. -- A large
majority of Britain's Muslims do not believe al-Qaida was
responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks and regard the war on
terror as a war on Islam, according to a survey for BBC radio's
flagship "Today" current affairs program
About 70 percent of the 500
Muslims who were questioned in a telephone poll at the weekend
did not believe al-Qaida was behind the Sept. 11 attacks and
more than one-half believe Osama bin Laden and the al-Qaida
terrorist network should not have been blamed for the attacks
Of those who were
surveyed, fully 11 percent believe further attacks on the US by
al-Qaida would be justified, while 8 percent said attacks on
Britain by al-Qaida would be justified
