When Will U.S. Government Step In And Solve The Broadband
Problem So All Americans Can Have Broadband?

I'M CONNECTING BY DIAL-UP
because the (distant) San Francisco suburb
to which I've moved--OK, it's about an hour's drive from the
City by the Bay, out in California's Central Valley--has not
quite joined the broadband age. Both DSL and cable-modem service
are supposed to be here "real soon now"--which could be anytime
after the first of the year. In the meantime, I'm stuck in modem
molasses, enjoying the same Internet experience most AnchorDesk
readers currently "enjoy."
I've got to tell you, it
really stinks. Web pages seem to have been optimized for the
bandwidth-endowed. The huge amount of spam I receive means
downloading e-mail--a process that used to take me about a
minute on DSL--turns into a coffee break using dial-up. This
makes me even angrier at the lower life-forms who send me all
this trash.
