Court Forces Catholic Group to Violate Its Own Faith

In an appalling act of judicial tyranny, the California Supreme Court has ruled 6-1 that Catholic Charities, a charitable organization of the Roman Catholic Church, must provide all employees with medical coverage that pays for birth control, which is expressly forbidden by the Church. According to the official doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church, “Every action… to render procreation impossible is intrinsically evil.”

Incredibly, the court’s intrusive decision now forces the Church to choose between promoting “evil” or completely denying healthcare coverage to its employees.

Court’s Reasoning Defies Human Logic

In 1999, the California legislature passed a law forcing employers to provide healthcare coverage for all contraceptives for women, but left an exemption for religious organizations. When Catholic Charities claimed religious exemption, the state opposed their efforts and filed a suit in California court, with legal support from both Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Incredibly, the court somehow determined that CATHOLIC charities was not a religious organization.
